BUT WHO'S SIDE IS RIGHT??
This one took me awhile …
& if I’m honest I still catch myself at times arguing my perspective is the reality 😬
If you’re someone who loveeeeessss being right (hi 👋🏼 I feel you)
You may want to stop reading...🙈
But you really shouldn’t because
The thing is there are two different & completely VALID points of view in any situation
In conflict we tend to get caught up in arguing our side (it’s just human nature)
“𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭. 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵?”
“𝘐’𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥.”
“𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴?”
But we each have our own unique viewpoint & interpretation of life.
THAT’S OKAY.
You don't need to have perceived a situation, a conversation, an experience the same way,
You don’t need to argue about who was right & who was wrong.
INSTEAD TRY:
✅ Listening to each other’s sides without:
➡️ Interruptions, thinking of your rebuttal, eye rolling 🙄
✅ Asking questions to better understand
➡️ (Ex. What did you hear when I said that; why did that make you so upset?)
✅ Validate each other’s experience.
➡️ (Ex. Okay I get how you heard it that way, that makes sense. I can see why you were upset.)
✅ Clarify Your Perspective
➡️ (Ex. My intention when I said that was xyz)
You don’t have to give up your perspective
You just have to respect each other’s.
